Why do my voicemails show up late

I am trying to set up Visual Voicemail on my iPhone 12 Pro Max. "Set up now" does not appear on the Phone/Voicemail tab. The voicemail screen only has a 'Call Voicemail' button; there are no Edit or Greeting links. My carrier is Verizon. Visual Voicemail is on other members' 12 Pro Maxes on the same Verizon account.
