The SCLA approach to developing academic and professional skills is based on the 70-20-10 Leadership Development Model. (70% is developed through experience, 20% is developed through interactions with others, and 10% is developed through structured materials).

Just like anything else it will mean something if you're involved in an actual leadership role like President of VP of Finance, but if you're just a "member," you get a cool certificate to hang on your wall (I have some of them in my cubicle at work because they look fancy), and nothing else (I don't even put them on my resume).
